Hi Everyone,

I’m Harry Jameson, Personal Trainer and Wellbeing Expert.

I’m working with The 1851 Trust and INEOS for their Go Humans Academy, and I want to talk to you about the importance of REST AND RECOVERY.

Rest and recovery are key attributes for wellbeing during and after exercise, or as part of a fitness programme.

A lack of proper recovery can often lead to an overload on the body, resulting in a decrease of physical and mental performance.

Too much exertion or too much stress can have a negative impact.

Whereas, an adequate recovery routine can mean a better mental state, increased concentration and memory, a healthier immune system, reduced stress, improved mood and even a better metabolism.

Factors that can contribute to better recovery can include getting enough quality sleep, keeping hydrated, making sure you have a nutritious, balanced diet and making sure to stretch out.

Have you ever tried comparing and contrasting your recovery time?

Try measuring your resting heart rate. Then compare your post-exercise heart rate.

Have a think about what this shows us, and discuss how recovery time could be improved.

Remember, incremental gains are what we’re going for here.
