Hi Everyone,

I’m Kimberley Wilson - a Psychologist and Brain Health Expert.

If you’ve been following the INEOS Go Humans Academy, this week’s focus is around redefining self-care.

The gray matter in your brain works on a ‘use it or lose it’ principle.

Without regular challenge, neural pathways will not be maintained or strengthened.

Cognitive challenge is one of the key ways to preserve our long-term brain health - and when it needs to make an effort, it’s a sign that you’re on the right track.

Aim for the sweet spot between so boring you could do it in your sleep and so hard that you’re disheartened.

Here are three ways to challenge your brain.

Number One

Learn or re-learn a language.

Download a free language app and commit to a 30-day learning streak to fire up your memory bank.

Number Two

Download a free music notation app and learn how to read notes on a stave.

Number Three

Find a local dance class and commit to going four times in a month.

The combined challenge of learning the music and the choreography, plus the chance to make new social connections, is a delicious tonic for the brain.

Alternatively, take up something else that you’ve always wanted to try, or alternatively, a hobby that you used to enjoy.
